Creative Writing Workshops

“I read my poem in front of the class. I felt brave.”   ~ Greenwood SS Student

Some Ideas

  • Integrated Arts – Art, Writing, and Wellness (Gr 7-12)Using various mediums students work to incorporate words, colour, and texture to create self-portraits, exploring their strengths and challenges. Making the visual art work first, provides an opportunity for the students to explore their ideas of self and leads to deeper, more thoughtful writing. Once the art is complete, teachers can work with their students as they write the story of their art work. This can take many forms depending on your classes’ curriculum expectations. Examples: Letter to a future self, a poem, a description of themselves as a god/goddess or superhero.
  • The Game of Life (Gr. 7-12) – Inspired by story prompts, participants work through a collaborative process that eventually leads to the creation of individual pieces. The focus is on starting with an oral process and writing from there.
