Description
An Integrated Arts and Wellness Unit based on The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and the Horse by Charlie Mackesy and The Red Tree by Shaun Tan
This unit uses these two poignant narratives to guide and weave together individual and group reflection. The arts provide teachers and students with creative tools to deconstruct and reconstruct heavy topics in safe, dynamic, and responsive ways! The activities included here are a way to structure creative exploration and discoveries through multimodal mediums. The creative process itself, is a way to create and reimagine, building inner resources that nurture relational capacities to play in life’s unknowns. All this, cultivating a new sense of self-worth full of positive acceptance.
Using visual arts, creative writing, drama, dance, and music we’ve created an inquiry unit appropriate for Junior/Intermediate students, exploring the following Big Ideas:
- The difference between feelings and emotions.
- All our emotions are important and worth exploring.
- We can develop tools to help us regulate ourselves and move through the hard times.
- The arts can help us connect to and express our feelings.
